If you decide to substitute the water with Goat’s
milk. Please utilize a soap
calculator to calculate the proper lye-milk ratio. This will
enhance the uniqueness of your soaps.
Base oils (available in our store)
Lye Solution
- 11.2 oz. Lye (Sodium Hydroxide)
- 28 oz water
Essential oils (available in our store)
Measure the water into a heat resistant plastic or glass container
(never use aluminum due to chemical reaction). Mix in the Lye
with a wooden spoon. Take care not to breath in fumes. The mixture
will heat up fast so take care not to get burned. If you should
get some of the Lye mixture on you, pour vinegar on the burn immediately
to help neutralize the Lye.
When the lye cools down to around 105 °F it is time to heat
up the oils in a stainless steel pot. When the oil mixture and
the lye solution are around 98 °F to 100 °F pour the lye
mixture into the oils. Using a stick blender mix the soap until
at trace. You are at trace when soap running off your spoon stays
on top of the soap in the pot for a moment. Mix in the reserved
Hazelnut oil and essential oils at this time. Pour into your mold.
Cover with an old blanket to insulate. In 24 hours un-mold and
cut your soap into bars.
